Hyperbaric Medicine Training Programs

TDI Recompression Chamber Operator / Inside-Tender

This TDI Tender/Operator course is an international student development program on the fundamental aspects of Recompression Chamber (RCC) principles and operations. A practical theoretical review of an RCC design, operational considerations and treatment table methods are presented. The objective of this course is aimed at expanding the skills taught in entry level First Aid programs and introduction in Recompression Chamber Operations. The course allows the student to experience hands-on training in realistic recompression operations. Exposure to multiple RCC operations and emergency procedures is the foundation of this training. This course is further intended to prepare the students to engage in actual chamber operations under the supervision of a DMT (Diver Medic Technician) and a DMO (Dive Medical Officer).

Subject areas:

  • History of Hyperbaric Medicine
  • Review of Physics (Archimedes, Pascal, Boyle, Charles, Lussac, Dalton, Henry, Poiseuille, Laplace, etc.)
  • Oxygen and its toxicity (Paul Bert, Lorraine Smith)
  • Mechanism of actions
  • Contraindications to Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO)
  • Treatment indications
  • Pre-treatment considerations
  • Technical aspects (Governing Bodies)
  • Types of Chambers (Multiplace, Monoplace, Steel, Acrylic, Concrete, Inflatable, etc.)
  • Emergency Procedures
  • System Components
  • Gas management
  • Oxygen Safety
  • Roles and Duties of the Chamber Operator / Inside Tender
  • Fire Suppression System (FSS)
  • Infection Control
  • Romberg's Test
  • Glasgow Coma Scale
  • 5 minute Neurological Exam
  • Treatment Tables

Course Structure : 5+ days (academics + 2 in-chamber dives, containing at least one USN TT6 scenario and one USN TT5 scenario and 3 out-chamber operation scenarios under direct supervision; 20 hours chamber operations containing at least 3 USN TT6 and 2 USN TT5 with at least 4 treatment as operator)

PADI Recompression Chamber Awareness

The purpose of the Recompression Chamber Awareness distinctive specialty is to provide a safe and well supervised introduction to a hyperbaric or recompression chamber facility and the possible treatment therein. The goals of the training here are to introduce divers to the recompression chamber and to enable divers to safely take part in a recompression chamber dive to a maximum of 18 metres.

The outline covers the following:

  • Purpose, function and uses of a modern recompression chamber
  • Benefits of therapeutic compressions in a hyperbaric chamber including DCI, AGE and near water drowning
  • Use of communication systems within a recompression chamber
  • Various types of air and gas supply systems that are commonly used in a hyperbaric chamber
  • Risks associated with the use of Oxygen under pressure
  • Necessity for rigorous safety procedures in and around a hyperbaric facility
  • 5 minute Neurological Exam
  • Explanation of a typical diving related hyperbaric treatment scenario

Course Structure :
DIVER           - 1 day (academics + 1 in-chamber dive)
INSTRUCTOR - 1 day (academics + 1 in-chamber dive)

DAN Europe DSL (Diving Safety Laboratory) Research Project

The first level of the research pyramid is the "DIVING SAFETY LAB BASE”. At the base you will find all the information about the research protocol, the documents, and the Doppler units.

DAN Research Diver

At the second level of the research pyramid we find the RESEARCH DIVER; Research Divers choose to dedicate some of their dives to DAN Research. All they are required to do is giving a few minutes to download the dive profile of their personal dive computers, fill in simple questionnaires and, occasionally, submit to a post-dive Eco-Doppler bubble recording. The Research Diver is the real protagonist of the research.

Course Structure :
PROVIDER     - 1 day (academics + workshop + OWD)

DAN Research Operator

The third level is the RESEARCH OPERATOR. He’s the main Operator. ROs are Dive Guides or Instructors trained to collect questionnaires and dive profiles, using the DSL Black Boxes. The software dedicated is called IMMERSIONI and you can download it at this link : Immersioni.

Course Structure :
PROVIDER     - 1 day (academics + workshop)
